In the Soviet era there existed such terms as 'Georgian Cognacs', 'Armenian Cognacs', etc. Of course, they used the name 'Cognac' not to mislead the customers but rather to stress the superb quality of the drinks. Some Georgian manufacturers still continue to use this word in regard to their production, but today 'brandy' has become the prevalent term. Georgian brandies, despite their excellent quality, are not widely known in the West. They are mostly exported to Russia and Ukraine. |
