Is your original artwork available for sale?
- The artwork represented here is not for sale. However, you can order high quality giclee prints of some of my works through ArtWanted.com store.
Are you against selling art, generally?
- I have absolutely nothing against commercial art — quite the contrary. I just don't sell my artwork, which is quite normal, considering that I have other sources of income. Besides, my pictures are too small in size to represent any significant "wall hanging" value.
I would like to link to your site. What do I have to do?
- Please see the links page for details.
Can I place some of your artwork on my website?
- Only with my blessing. To obtain such a blessing, thou shalt represent the artwork unmodified, with proper credits and linking to this website. Also, thy website shalt not contain pornography or any other kind of improper content. Amen!
Can I print the images for my personal use?
- Yes, you can — as long as it's for personal use, and if you have a printer, of course. You may print them out, hang them on the walls, keep them under your pillows (surrealistic dreams guaranteed), or give them to someone as a gift, but please don't multiply them for any kind of commercial purpose.
Can I obtain high resolution images of your artwork?
- Yes, you can. To obtain them, simply send your request to
, indicating the image title and the desirable resolution. But please don't request a whole bunch of images at once. Also, you cannot obtain the hi-res versions of design samples, only artwork.
Can I use your design samples in my work?
- I would be only glad to have someone inspired by my design works, but please bear in mind that all of these samples (with rare exceptions) are already printed and copyrighted by their respective owners, therefore any strong resemblance could be considered as breaking the copyright law.
What is your technique?
- I draw my pictures on A4 format (210x297mm) drawing paper using everything close at hand — pencils, ballpoint pens, water-based inks, dirty fingers, etc. No oil, no canvas, no cardboard. Small size makes the artwork extremely convenient for scanning and publishing on digital media, but it also requires a delicate rendering. There are no particular secrets in my technique, I just draw with very fine, confluent strokes, which is why people sometimes confuse my drawings with paintings, when viewing them through the Web. More detailed information about my technique can be found here.
Have you ever tried oil?
- Yes, I did. The taste was terrible! Well, to be serious, I haven't touched oil paints since I graduated from the art school back in 1994, so I became kind of disaccustomed to them. Although, it's not improbable that someday I might return to oil painting. It would be really interesting to make the "oil versions" of some of my drawings.
Where do you exhibit your works?
- Nowhere. I had no exhibition so far — neither personal nor group. No such plans in foreseeable future. Although, for a couple of years a night club in Tbilisi permanently exhibited 15 printed reproductions from Black Coffee With No Sugar series.
Is this website created all by yourself?
- Yep. Designed, created, maintained. But since I'm not a professional web-designer, sometimes I take advices from my professional friends, when it comes to technical issues.
Have you created any other websites?
- Yes, I worked on several commercial projects. Most of them are already represented on the Web. Also, some websites have design elements done by me, and I have participated in a few projects as a graphics consultant. Still, I don't regard myself as a professional web-designer, and polygraphic design remains to be the main field of my commercial activity.
Is "Rezo" a pseudonym or a real name?
- Rezo is a commonly used short form for a traditional Georgian name Revaz, which is presumably of ancient Arabian-Persian origin, like many other Georgian names. However, there are some interesting coincidences with this name. For instance, there is a well-known Japanese anime character from "The Slayers" TV series, named Rezo the Red Priest. Also, the word "rezo" means "prayer" in Spanish, which explains why I am so popular among the Spanish-speaking users of MSN Messenger — obviously they think it's a very cool nickname.
Who is this Russell Goodcoin character?
- It was the pen-name for my first copybook back in 1993-94. Goodcoin is a loose translation of my last name, Kaishauri,
which literally reads "good five-kopeck coin" in Georgian (although the real meaning of this last name is entirely different). Currently it serves me more as a nickname for chatting or registering on the Web.
Why "Black Coffee"? What has the coffee to do with it?
- It simply means that all the works from "Black Coffee" series represent the images seen in the coffee grounds. All the sketches, on which these pictures are based, are drawn from actual coffee cups drunk by actual people.
Can you tell the fortune by coffee grounds?
- No, I am no fortune teller. All I do is looking at the coffee grounds and retrieving the visual information, nothing more. It's actually very easy to see those images — you just need to have some imagination and a little patience. Usually you need to look hard for a couple of minutes, and only then they begin to appear, but sometimes they just crop up right the moment you glance into the cup.
Why so much nudity? Are you obsessed or something?
- I enjoy drawing nude people — mostly females, as you may have noticed. Most of the classic works represent nudity, but nobody happens to call the old masters obsessed. As to the exposed genitals, let's see — maybe I just suffer with an uncontrollable desire to "annoy maiden aunts or censors", like Piers Anthony wrote.
There is no artwork dated 2005 on the website. Why?
- Simply because I haven't created any artwork in 2005 whatsoever. Not even a single sketch. Nada. Beside that, the website was shut down in the beginning of 2005 and relaunched only in May, 2006. The reasons behind this full stop were too numerous and complicated, so let's just lump all the blame on alien abduction and hope that this kind of creative inactivity does not recur ever again.
Are there any other websites containing your artwork?
- There are several such places on the Web — for instance, my portfolio at ArtWanted.com, my page at SurrealismNow.com and my gallery at SurrealArtists.org. Also, recently I discovered a site dedicated to Bulgakov's Master and Margarita, which contains a series of my illustrations to this book. On top of that, this website has a satellite mini-site called Erotic Fantasies, which contains exclusively erotic pieces of my artwork.
What do those colored balloons mean, anyway?
- You can learn the meaning of those three colored balloons and some of the other recurring symbols on this page.
